iTunes Music Store Release More DRM Free MusicThe iTunes music store has been releasing new updates to its offerings over the past few days.  Some of it good news, like the lowering of iTunes Plus track prices.  Some of it bad news, Universal is now trying to start an online download store to compete with iTunes.

Today is no different with news coming from Apple about its online store.  Apple has added 2 million iTunes Plus tracks to the store.  The iTunes Plus tracks are DRM-free music that can be loaded onto any digital music player.  This is what Universal is working on with its online store.  Universal wants DRM-free music in addition to a free monthly subscription so users can download all the music they want onto a subsidized player.

iTunes Plus tracks used to cost $1.29 USD.  They have now been dropped to 99¢ US per song.  Apple seems to be trying at least by providing DRM-free tracks and now at the new lower price.

Time will tell if Apple has made the right move by including so many more tracks without DRM.  2 million more tracks however, should help Apple keep a leg up on the competition.
