iPhone Telstra HackThe Apple iPhone has been hacked to work on the Australia Telstra mobile network.  The hack was demoed on YouTube showing a call made from the iPhone.  Unfortunately, this hack does not enable users to fully use their iPhone on the Telstra cellphone network.  The hack does not allow the iPhone to send or receive SMS text messages or receive calls.

It is however, the best a hacker has done to get the device to work on a foreign mobile network.  The iPhone is scheduled for release in Australia sometime next year.

In July, another iPhone user, Jon Johnansen, hacked the cellphone to allow users to bypass the AT&T mobile network to use the wireless Internet and music functions only leaving the phone part disabled.

Even though the YouTube clip demonstrating the hack has been removed from the video sharing service, steps to re-create his success are posted on online message boards throughout the web.  It involves creating a custom SIM card using information from both the AT&T SIM that comes with the iPhone and a Telstra SIM card.  Telstra is considered the future iPhone carrier in Australia as it the only mobile carrier with an established EDGE network.
