iPhone Firmware Update 1.1.2Apple has updated its iPhone cell phone firmware to 1.1.2.  This was a timely update for two reasons.  The first reason was that Apple just released an updated Quicktime 7.3 and iTunes 7.5.  Commonly, when Apple updates these programs in concert an iPhone cell phone firmware update is around the corner.

02 UK Reconsiders Data Transfer Policy02 the cell phone operator in the UK had come out with a notice about their 200MB monthly transfer “fair-use” policy.  It now appears they have listened to potential customers in the UK about the data usage issue and have changed their policy.  With not a moment to waste as the iPhone is released on Friday, 02 mangers surely had their hands full updating their sales people with the change.

Jailbreak Apple iPhoneWhen users jailbreak an Apple iPhone these days, one would think that the world is coming to an end.  At least that’s what Apple would like for would be buyers of the iPhone to believe.  Jailbreaking an iPhone is not only easy to do, even with the newest 1.1.1 firmware, but it opens up the iPhone to a whole new world of software possibilities.

Some users have asked if jailbreaking an iPhone will render it useless.  This method only reassigns the root of the iPhone’s file tree.  This is technical speak, but the main fact is that it in no way affects the iPhone’s telephone function or software that runs the baseband modem of the cell phone.

Apple has released the iPhone Dev Center today with a section that helps developers create web software applications for the iPhone.  This is not the same as the iPhone SDK that Apple will be introducing sometime in February.

Google Docs Mobile Optimized For iPhoneAn upgrade for Google Docs has been announced on the official Google Blog.  They have added more capabilities for mobile phones to view documents created in their docs, spreadsheets and presentation applications.  The new mobile site is currently being introduced for only one mobile phone at this time.

iPhone SDK From Apple in February 2008Third party software programs on the iPhone were supposed to cause network problems, viruses and other nefarious issues.  Since the introduction of the first hacks for the iPhone, Apple has been playing a cat and mouse game when trying to control what users can install on their iPhone.  Yesterday, then was a big change in Apple’s stance on the 3rd party software development.
