YouTube on November 17, 2010 will roll out a new social sharing feature that will make it more tightly integrated with Twitter. Confirmed on YouTube’s website this early morning, YouTube says, “Heads up: Starting on November 17th, your Twitter username will appear as a “Follow this user” suggestion after people share your video to Twitter,” that whenever a video is shared from its website to Twitter, if the account is linked to that person or company’s YouTube account, it will present the user an option to follow them on Twitter. Why is this big news?
The world’s largest social media conference, the first and only industry-wide, tradeshow and media event for all web 2.0, is known as BlogWorld and New Media Expo. It arrived like a fully loaded Airbus A380, with some of the top heavy-hitting social media experts in media, such as Mark Burnett, Emmy-Award Winning Producer and Darren Rowse, CEO of Problogger. Del Williams of Del Williams Media recently asked me to be a guest on her Portrait of A Business Show interview series about Twitter and its advertising potential. Thanks to her great timing as it was during the National Association of Broadcasters Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada and days after Twitter released information about their upcoming ad platform.
In the Portrait of A Business interview, I shared my insights about how Twitter is a powerful social networking platform and ways that large and small businesses could reach out to new customers. In addition, I talk about how companies that sign up to exhibit at conventions can engage people before, during and after. As someone who has attended various conventions over many years, there is a method to retaining interested contacts and my tips should help those companies do so.
Around the month of March, I received an email from Norwegian Cruise Line giving me the opportunity to be a part of an inaugural cruise in Miami, Florida for the Norwegian EPIC, the most expensive and luxurious cruise ship by NCL. The EPIC is the largest cruise ship ever attempted by Norwegian. That means it will have the most staterooms and luxury suites of any cruise liner ship, in their entire fleet. I saw some greats in business, entertainment and social media come together to discuss the state of now at the panel “Twitter and the Entertainment Industry: How the Real Time Web is Changing Hollywood”. The panelists involved were; Steve Broback of Head of Parnassus Group, Carter Holland VP of AVID Technology, Oren Jacob CTO of Pixar & Independent Filmmaker, Adam Zbar CEO Tap11, Warren Whitlock Twitter Guy & Author and myself, Christopher Rauschnot of 24k Media, a Social Media Consultancy Firm. The panelists discussed a wide variety of topics to what is known as the, “state of now.”
