iPhone Activate Screen

While in a AT&T Wireless store just a few hours ago, I was told from a sales person that the iPhone activation system was going to be down this entire weekend starting tomorrow.  This person went on to mention that I should either buy the iPhone today to get it activated, or purchase it on Monday so that I would be able to activate it then and not have to wait over the weekend.

iPhone BusinessSources from Taiwan are coming out with some additional rumors about new iPhone versions along with a wireless audio system “that would allow music to be played directly from an iPod, iPhone, or range of Apple computers.” This news comes a day after another rumor about the iPhone Nano from another source inside of Taiwan. This rumor was quickly rebutted by JP Morgan here in the United States.

iPhone Remote BuddyThe iPhone Remote Buddy programmed with AJAX is in beta from IOSpirit.  This is yet another application released from the guidelines on the Apple iPhone Developer Site.  It appears to be another Safari add on program.  It has some interesting features listed below.

  • Control more than 70 applications, system parameters and Remote Buddy itself.
  • Live updating mini version of your desktop to reposition the mouse curson on screen.  It even has access to multiple screens, toggle Mousespot, perform mouse clicks or navigate your presentation.
  • Type text on your Mac through the iPhone Safari browser.
  • Access the fully configurable, powerful menu of Remote Buddy. It’s animated and AJAX-based.
  • Browse the iTunes music library on your Mac through Remote Buddy by artist, album, playlists and tracks. Huge lists of entries are automatically broken up into A-Z categories.
  • An interactive “now playing” display for iTunes, play, pause, skip tracks, change the rating of a song and see the cover art.
  • Launches VIDEO_TS folders on the Mac through the iPhone by interfacing with Remote Buddy’s movie library.  The Movies section is showing any covers it can find and starts playback of the selection in DVD Player or VLC.
  • Zap in EyeTV and start playback of its recordings.  Browse channels and recordings and see your Mac switch to them as you touch them.

iPhone Nano Rumor From JP Morgan

iPhone Nano rumors were made a few days ago by Kevin Chang but have now been retracted by JP Morgan.  The iPhone Nano is not entirely out of the question although it may be delayed until sometime next year.  It did take over two years for the original iPhone to make its debut.

According to a rebuttal from the North America Equity Research division, “has not been able to independently confirm” Mr. Chang’s comments with a second source and also mentions that “a lower-end iPhone appearing in the near-term would be unusual and highly risky.”

iPhone IM JiveTalkBeejive’s JiveTalk for iPhone has been released, but it is an Alpha version.  Earlier reports of iPhone instant message software by Trillian Astra will not be available for several more weeks.  Since the introduction of the iPhone Developer Site a few days ago, iPhone programmers are now able to build applications according to Apple guidelines.

Beejive is the first IM client for the iPhone available for download.  The alpha version includes most IM services such as AIM AOL instant messenger, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo!, GoogleTalk and Jabber.  It remains to be seen if all of the listed services will be available in iChat once it is released.  Users may actually want to use both programs, depending on what messaging services they use most.

iPhone ATT Survery July

AT&T and Apple recently sent out a survey to ask iPhone users about their experiences while using the phone.  This is in preperation for what both companies may be able to do in the future, to entice more switchers.  Several key questions of the survey are about EDGE performance.  EDGE is a lower end data transfer system that is being used rather than the 3G, that most thought would come with the iPhone.  Also asked was how well users rated performance while using “iChat,” which as we know, is not an application installed by default on the iPhone.
